Department Profile

The Department of Economics started in the year 2015. The department offers a three-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics (Model II)—Foreign Trade with Computer Application. It has maintained a long-standing commitment to transforming our students into active learners and thinkers in economics since its inception. A team of qualified and dedicated teachers ensures the development of every student, mentoring them to face the challenges of a dynamic business environment.

HOD’s Message

This programme occupies a strategic place among the social sciences as many careers require an understanding and analysis of contemporary issues. Apart from having strength in traditional areas like Micro Economics and Macro Economics, the department also has expertise in handling Econometrics, Developmental Economics, International Trade, Shipping and Foreign Documentation papers. The main aim of the department is to acquaint students with theoretical and practical problems of the global and Indian Economy. Furthermore, the department also seeks to provide better competencies in problem solving, critical thinking, and policy formulation and scope in the areas of foreign trade. I am sure, in times to come, many more students from our department will make an indelible mark in the field of economics and make us proud.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS

• Students of B.A Economics build a foundation in Economics with Perspectives and Methodology in Economics and Micro Economics as core courses, complemented by computer fundamentals in the first year.
• In the second year, the course offers various core subjects like Macro Economics, Development Economics, and Public Finance complemented by MS Office and Visual Basics. It also introduces Vocational or specialised papers like International Business, International trade theory, and International Banking..
• In the final year, the course enhances the student’s specialization on Foreign Trade, ability to identify contemporary economic issues and their analytical mathematical skills. It provides courses like Quantitative Techniques, Econometrics, Indian Economy, Business Economics, Foreign Trade Financing, Documentation and Procedures, Shipping and Insurance etc..
